Children for a Peaceful World

"they know what we've forgotten"

Children For A Peaceful World asked the 7th graders at Lee Middle School in San Angelo to tell us their ideas on how we could have a more peaceful community. We were impressed by each and everyone of them.

- Everyone has a problem. Show a little compassion for the less fortunate around you. If people showed compassion for others we would not have so many fights or wars. Think of it as an arrow of light piercing through the cold night sky giving warmth and light to all it passes. It starts with one. Don’t make me the only one who cares.

- Don’t make or encourage racial jokes or insults. Don’t pass judgment on others because they look different. There are numerous endless possibilities or ideas to help put peace in the world. But first peace has to start with you and me.

- To tell you the truth, I think the only way we can help the world is if we all just leave the world.

- You have to be peaceful if you want the world to be peaceful. Give people a compliment to make them feel good about themselves and maybe you’ll feel good about yourself.

- Peace in the world is a special bond everyone has locked inside them. When we work together we do things we never thought we could do. Through organizations we can work together on a common goal to make the world more peaceful.

- We need to focus more on the good things people do instead of the bad.

- You could have more peace in the world if everybody donated their time and help others in need. Just one dollar can make a difference.

- Peace I think is something we all want. Nothing great comes out of war.

- Put signs up showing we need peace. In class the desks are in bad shape because of the writing on it. Kids make holes with their pencils that show they don’t care. The schools need new desks.

- When someone is sitting by themselves I’ll go over and introduce myself and who knows, maybe we can become friends.

- We are different on the outside but in the inside we are the same.

Peace- its definition is a time/thing idea of harmony. More and more people in our world are considering it.

- I’m not sure if it’s just me but when someone helps me, I always feel like I should pass it on to someone else.

- Today’s children are tomorrow’s adults. I believe in the importance of a good home life in the growth and development of a child.

- I want all children to have a home and somebody to love them and feel that God sent them here to make a difference.

- Get rid of our violent media. Get rid of violent music. Stop using foul language. More serious punishment for crimes.

- A lot of kids at school are racist. I don’t understand why.

- A peaceful world is when you go outside at night and gaze at the stars or are at the top of mountains majesty and can see for miles. Little words can mean so much.

- Many people dream but are afraid to even try. To me, people who achieve their dreams are heroes. You can never have too much love or hope. No matter what age we are we can always help our world.

- God. That’s right God. G-O-D. Because God is trust, fellowship, PEACE, happiness and health. If everyone believed in God there would be no reason to fight. It is the solution to everyone’s problems. Teenagers are in gangs to “be cool.” I think they are just ruining their lives.

- There was a peaceful world in the past.

- You can help the homeless. It will help the world, I Promise.

23. My idea for a more peaceful world is to have God in your our lives and having a huge heart. We would then have joy, respect and the main thing, love.

- I could make the world more peaceful by hanging around people of a different race.

- I can make the world a better place by cleaning up the city and neighborhoods. I can give things I don’t need to people who need them.

- I would be a doctor because my grandpa is one and he takes care of old people.

- You have to treat people the way you want to be treated. Everyone needs to learn respect.

- I want to stop littering. We will get volunteers to pick up trash and collect 50 cents for every pound we collect.

- I would like to talk to some people that are head of San Angelo to stop vandalism and help kids that have bad parents.

– When I walk our dog I feel like he is taking all the stress from my body.

- I would let homeless people bathe in my bathtub and help them get a job and a home.

- Don't make fun of people because of their weight, or judge people by the way they look or talk.

- When I hear “let peace begin with me” I think of many many things. Like being kinder, helping others in the community, being a good student, recycling, donating money, pick up trash and volunteer at the hospital.

- We could call people all around the world and have peace clubs. We can learn new languages.

- If I see someone starting violence I would tell an adult.

- Peace begins with me. Speak and you will be heard. War never solved anything

- Kids around the world should try to get along more by doing activities together. I feed the poor with my family. I can’t do all of this feeding, cleaning and caring by myself. I’m going to need some help. My dream is to go to every soup kitchen in the world. Looks like I need to get going.

- America could also stop making these horrible movies. All people that see them from different countries see bad things about us.

- Everybody could stop neglecting people.

- We need to take action in what we believe in. We need to work together.

- The people who care are the people who really matter to the community and our world!

- We can get the younger people to help the older people like do stuff they need help with. I think that everybody has some good in them.

- We can make this world better by getting a good president.

- One way we could make the world a more peaceful place is by donating to the homeless shelter.

- People need to find anything that works to relax them, like listening to soothing music throughout the day. The entire city of San Angelo would be better and parents would have less stress and be nicer to their kids. Soon everybody would be nicer to each other due to the domino effect.

- We can help elementary schools by giving them healthy food and cleaning up the school.

- We can help all kids go to college and have a good education. I want peace to begin with me because I want to go to college one day in my life.

- I need to think more before I say something and not come off as mean. When someone starts gossip I can just ignore it and walk away.

- I am very proud of this amazing world God gave us.

- Parents need to have more interactions with their kids. Parents should watch what their children see on TV. There should be more school clubs where students feel a part of something.

- We should have pen pals and have classes in school where they can help you if you need help.

- I would start a food drive for the poor and hungry and also a clothing drive for the poor. I hope that I can make my community and the world a better place.

- We have kids that weigh up to 250 lbs. We need to get more healthy food in the schools. That goes for all of the schools.

- When you do “sweet revenge” you are only hurting yourself.

- I think that everyone should work to be a better person so that we can have world peace.

You need a symbol that can represent peace for everybody. We need to communicate and figure out someway, somehow, to spread peace and this symbol could help.

- I could stop getting into trouble and start making good grades. I could stop back talking teachers. I could be nice to my haters even though they might jump me. At least it’s a start.

- Donate clothes you don’t wear to the Salvation Army. Think about it. Would you hire someone that doesn’t have decent clothes or a home? If more people would care then this world would be a peaceful one.

- I would try to make peace by asking people to not litter trash in streets and help pick up trash. I would also ask people to care for one another.

- We could help seniors and the community and be nice. We could give 2nd chances to everybody.

- I would stop kids from buying and selling drugs.

- To make this world peaceful we could stop polluting the earth.

– You must share to get along. You can’t judge a book by its cover.

- There are many many many more people that want the same as me…peace. Everyone has done something they are not proud of. If we focus on God that would happen less often. My dream is that someday we will have a more peaceful world.

- I think writing letters to sick children in our community would encourage them. If I ever meet a sick child I tell them God healed me and he will heal you as well. I have such a desire to help sick children because God placed the desire in my heart. Everyday I smile because God saved my life.

- I will let peace begin with me, by the orphaned and homeless children of the world. Please take the time to look at these poor kids and talk and play with them. They feel very sad and want a family and home to be loved by. Maybe you should consider adopting one or more. I should know, I’m adopted too.

- Because most people have grown accustomed to the way they do things, they have different thoughts and opinions on how other people do things. The fact is, human nature makes us fear unfamiliarity, difference and change. We need to fight for child abuse. We can encourage people to report any sign of abuse they encounter. Today’s children are tomorrow’s adults.

- We first need to find peace within our homes and community. Why do something to hurt someone, when you could help someone and make your heart swell with pride? If someone were brave enough to create a torch of love and start an ongoing chain of helping one another, our community would be filled with peace. And when our community reaches out to another community, more peace is spread with the same torch of love. In my mind I can literally see a torch burning, with the fire representing a burning passion for helping others being passed from person to person. When I picture this, everyone giving up their old ways, and becoming the person they have always longed to be, I wonder, could this really work? Could helping others really change their way of life? After pondering over this a long time, I decided that it could work. All it would take is a person willing to devote their time, and if necessary, a little money, and a cooperative group of people to begin with.

- We need peace in the world so, everyone could be happy, I guess. Because, madness just ends up to become one huge mess! And madness is started by what people did, or what they do. That is why we need all the peace we can get.

- Parents must talk to the child about the child’s thoughts. The parents must also talk to the child about the idea of peace.
